ABOUT US

Behind Superman, Clark Kent. Behind Spiderman? Peter Parker of course.

Behind Poison Boy is Dr. Gerry O’Malley, the man that performs groundbreaking research, teaches and practices medicine in some of the gerryombusiest emergency rooms in the world. Poison Boy is everything the 11-year old version of Dr. O’Malley was – the kid who was always the first to crawl into dark, creepy basements just to see who (or what…) might be down there.

Dr. O’Malley is a board certified emergency medicine physician and medical toxicologist. He went to university and medical school in his hometown of New York and moved to his adopted hometown of Philadelphia, PA to do his emergency medicine training. He spent 10 years in the US Navy as a Naval medical officer and traveled the world, always eager to explore the unique aspects of poisoning and antidotes among the local people and cultures. Dr. O’Malley is a Professor of Emergency Medicine and Toxicology at The Sidney Kimmel School of Medicine of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia where he teaches medical students, sharing his over 20 years of experience exploring the unknown and the downright weird. He is also the Director of Toxicology and Research at the Grand Strand Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where he actively works to treat patients and study the effects of snakebites, marine animal envenomation and antidotes. He has written over 30 textbook chapters, over 100 scientific papers and has received numerous teaching and research awards from a variety of hospitals, medical schools and professional organizations. He is a highly sought-after speaker and is invited to lecture on medicine and toxicology topics all over the world, a scientist and skeptic with a boundless sense of wonder and adventure.

boysBut we all know you’re here for Poison Boy, his alter ego. The 11-year-old boy who is still fascinated with mysteries and adventure and scary things that go bump in the night.

And the Safety Rangers? They’re the wide ranging friends and colleagues that have assembled alongside of Poison Boy to help entertain and inform when it comes to all the curious and fascinating corners of the toxicology world.
