Pray for the people of Turkey – especially the ones that like to drink. Taxes on alcohol and tobacco are so high in Turkey, that people have to make their own hooch and grow their own tobacco. Well, someone made a bad batch of Turkish Delight and mixed in some methanol, which has no taste or color and over a hundred people have been hospitalized and a dozen or so are dead. This happens occasionally, more common in Africa, I think. When will governments learn that taxing vice simply doesn’t work to curb it? People will still find a way to get their hooch and cigarettes. Perhaps if the prohibitory taxes were to be modified, people wouldn’t have the need to drink sterno and windshield washer fluid.
