Not sure what the purpose was here. Some hipster lunatic decided to “poison” some exposed food at Whole Foods and Kroger and other stores in Michigan by spraying hand sanitizer/water/mouse poison on them. Luckily in this country, most mouse poison is an anticoagulant that is very effective at making mice bleed internally, but would be unlikely to injure a human unless that individual ate a tremendous amount of it. The guy was observed to “splash” some of the mix on the hot food station in a Whole Foods several times. Is it possible that someone might eat enough food from the hot food bar at a Whole Foods to affect their bleeding ability? Doubtful, just because I’ve never seen anyone eat anything from the hot food bar at a Whole Foods. That stuff is awful. I can’t imagine spraying a water-based poison on fruits and vegetables would have much of an effect, because the first thing that a person does before eating fruits and vegetables is to wash them, or remove the rind (and discarding the contaminated part of the fruit). The salad bar, on the other hand, might have been a better target and who knows whether he sprayed some rat poison on the chickpeas and quinoa? Still – repeated exposure might result is some small degree of symptoms but again – the likelihood is pretty unrealistic. The guy needs to be locked up and nobody should let him anywhere near the prison cafeteria. BTW – one of the most terrifying books you can read about this type of poisoning (product tampering) is “Time Release” by Martin J. Smith. You will have nightmares.
