It’s Been a Bad Week for Chinese Poisoners

First we had the 12-year old looking grad student at Stanford that poisoned an entire science department and was sentenced to a year in prison – now we have crazy ol’ Lin Sinhao a medical student at “a prestigious Shanghai University” (funny, I can’t find a single online article that actually names the university, but it is Fudan University) – who put dimethylnitrosamine (DMN) in his roomate’s drinking water and killed him. And in turn, the Chinese government killed Lin. The differences in the cases are obvious, the Stanford Chinese poisoner didn’t actually kill anyone (although she easily could have) and she committed her crime in California, where nobody is put to death despite lots of really good reasons to do so. DMN is a really bad poison and I’m surprised that the roommate lasted for 2 weeks before his liver just up and quit.
