This happens more often than you think – and it’s not limited to the developing world. People begin preparing homemade brews and concoctions and before you know it, the guests at the party start dropping like flies. Maheu is a non-alcoholic drink from southern Africa made from maize, malt and sugar (see recipe below, in case you want to try to make some at home, yourself). With 1 person dead and 17 people sick it certainly seems as if somehow put something nasty in the maheu. Perhaps is was an accident – who knows? We will keep our eyes on this one.
