I’ve read about this kind of thing in Japan, where young people will contact each other in online suicide chatrooms, meet and agree to a suicide pact. They get together in a car, drive to a remote location, concoct a “suicide potion” with hydrogen sulfide or carbon monoxide and all inhale deeply and succumb to the toxin. They usually are polite enough to leave a sign taped to the window of the car that there is poisonous gas inside to warn rescuers against exposing themselves. Apparently this college student did something similar, but was pretty reckless, given the unpredictable nature of a gas that might travel into adjacent dorm rooms and injure other people. Eleven people were hurt and might easily have died.
