Not sure what this represents. Several people touched an electronic lock at a synagogue in Paris and immediately felt burning of the skin and eyes. Chances are they were poisoned with some highly water-soluble chemical irritant like pepper spray (capsacin) or chemical mace (1% CN gas in a solvent of 2-butanol, propylene glycol, cyclohexene, and dipropylene glycol methyl ether). Once you get some of that stuff on your hands, it gets all over. Usually just washing out the affected (contaminated) areas will take care of the problem, decontaminate the scene and stop the symptoms. That’s apparently what happened to these 14 people and there are no severe adverse affects expected. The question now is – was this just a prank or intimidation? I think if it had happened at a high school or some other secular place, it could be chalked up as a dumb prank. The fact that it happened at a synagogue in Paris points pretty conclusively to probable harassment.
