The important statistic that this article ignores is that Australia (and the UK and Ireland) have cut down on the number of serious paracetamol (acetaminophen or brand name Tylenol) overdoses and fatalities by limiting the number of pills you can buy at a time. Teenage overdose is (most of the time) an impulsive act, so the teen gets into a fight with the boyfriend (or girlfriend) runs to the medicine cabinet and eats whatever is in there. If there are only a few pills, then the worst that can happen is they get a stomach ache. Their liver doesn’t slide out of their butt, smoking. Here in the US, we can’t give up our Costco sized bottles of acetaminophen, even though there is over 10 years of really good data to demonstrate that it works to limit the size of the bottles that are available to purchase.
