Poison Boy isn’t here to judge – if a consenting adult wants to indulge in recreational marijuana, knock yourself out. The troubling thing is that facts like these aren’t being reported to pot users (or perhaps the pot users don’t want to hear them). There have been several large, well done studies over the past 4 or 5 years, all demonstrating the same thing – habitual use of marijuana causes brain damage – in many cases irreversible brain damage. For adolescent, developing brains, the damage is devastating. It’s as simple as that. This particular study was performed in England and demonstrated that in daily users of cannabis, nerve fibers in the corpus callosum were inefficient – they didn’t work as well as the brains of people who didn’t use cannabis. If you want to blaze – hey, I’m not gonna get in your way. But the people that rationalize marijuana use with “well, what about all the damage that alcohol causes, huh?” are making a false comparison. And anyone that says marijuana is totally safe simply has no idea what they are talking about and are, as my Dad used to say “Talking out of their arse.”
